Le Bouge, a turreted petit chateau in a peaceful rural location in the South West of France, near Bordeaux vineyards & Dordogne gastronomy, is available for holiday rentals.

The chateau dates from the late 18th century, has lovely sweeping views, a heated pool and comfortably sleeps 12.

Palatial Living

Le Bouge is a bright and charming petit chateau with beautiful countryside views. The house has grand proportions amd plenty of period features yet is homely and comfortable, with plenty of outdoor and indoor spaces to socialise and to unwind.

The house is surrounded by its own grounds amid farmland and is approached by a private drive off a country road.

The house sleeps up to 12 comfortably and has five/six bedrooms. It is lovingly furnished to a very high standard, with a tasteful mix of antique and contemporary furniture. Most rooms have dual aspect windows and all have lovely, leafy views.

Top floor:

The master suite is set across the entire and has its own lounge and viewing area from one of the turrets. Large double bed (150 X 200 cm), ensuite shower room & WC and Satellite TV.

First floor: 

Bedroom 2: Double bed (150 X 200cm) with ensuite shower room and WC. Dual aspect windows overlooking the pool and countryside.

Bedroom 3: Double bed (135 x 190cm). Dual aspect windows overlooking the grounds. 

Bedroom 4: Large bed (180 x 200cm), which can be split into two singles (90 x 200cm) if required. Windows overlooking the grounds and the countryside.

Bedroom 5: Two large twin beds (135 x 200cm). Dual aspect windows overlooking the grounds and countryside.

There is an additional shared shower room and WC on this floor.

Ground floor:

For those who struggle with stairs, the study can easily double up as a sixth bedroom with a luxury sofa double bed. 

There is a full bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate WC on the ground floor. 

Cots and high chairs are available upon request.

Relaxed Dining

The substantial eat-in kitchen and living areas are on the ground floor, comprising a formal dining room, sitting room, a study and an intimate salon. The dining room and living room open out on to the garden and pool area with plenty of options for alfresco dining.

We can arrange outside caterers to provide delicious French meals at the house and also offer wine tours and vineyard picnics, including child friendly options.

Peaceful Oasis

The house is surrounded by its gardens and mature trees and boasts lovely country views.

A north facing terrace at the back of the house as well as the acre of grounds around the house provide plenty of sunny and shaded outdoor space – including swings for kids.

The accommodation is designed to be flexible. There are plenty of areas for families to enjoy each other’s company, as well as quiet areas for reading a book or a snooze. 

The heated, south-facing pool measures 11m x 4.5m, and offers panoramic views. The pool has steps leading into it, which children can enjoy splashing around in.

Revitalising Pool

There are plenty of attractions nearby from bastides to gardens and from chateaux to vineyards.

The lovely ladies at the Marmande Tourist Office are very helpful and can guide you further.

Bordeaux is well worth spending the day. Walk along the lovely promenade by the river and admire the stunning architecture. Beautiful neighbourhoods, squares and chic boutiques to discover, made easy to navigate by an excellent public tram system, with no shortage of fantastic restaurants and cafes from which to watch the world go by. There is a large flea market on Sunday.
Visit the imposing 12th century Chateau De Duras. Continue on to Saint-Émilion, a World Heritage site, with fascinating Roman churches and ruins stretching all along steep and narrow streets. Enjoy a lazy lunch in one of its beautiful squares and spoil yourself trying Bordeaux’s finest reds.
Issigeac is a small village dating back to Roman times, a 40-minute drive away. Visit on Sunday for its thriving market abounding in gastronomic delights as well as an exceptional selection of local wines, meats, fruit and vegetables brought directly to the market by their producers. Leisurely lunch at the pretty L"Atelier restaurant is a wonderful way to end your stroll through the market.
The mid-sixteenth century Chateau De Monbazillac (30 mins drive) is set amid the heart of the famous Monbazillac vineyards. You can visit their wine museum, explore the chateau and taste the wines in their shop. Many other famous vineyards are around this area, including Chateau de la Jaubertie. Stop for a drink in quaint Eymet on the way back.

Le Bouge enjoys a tranquil and relaxing location with pretty views, yet is only 2km from the nearest village and 12km from the bustling town of Marmande. Large stores and weekly markets are all within a 15 minute drive.

There are several local boulangeries in the village of Escassefort, 2 km away, while there are plenty of restaurants and bars in Escassefort, Seyches and Marmande.

The chateau is ideally located for exploring the gastronomic delights of Aquitaine, the beauty of the Dordogne and the rural idyll of Lot-et-Garonne. The Bordeaux vineyards are within easy reach – Unesco World Heritage St. Emilion wine area is less than an hour away. The Perigord truffle region is also close by. There are many beautiful castles such as Duras and medieval bastides (fortified towns) such as Issigeac (37km) nearby. The beautiful city of Bordeaux, the ‘pearl of Aquitaine’, is an hour away and the stunning Atlantic Coast beaches around Arcachon are within easy reach.

There are plenty of dining options as you are at the doorstep of fine wine and foie gras country. A host of hobbies including horse riding, tennis, fishing, flying lessons, swimming and kayaking can all be catered to nearby. Golf and flying clubs are within 15 minutes driving distance.
